A woman was killed between 9 and 9:30 am this morning in front of Lincoln Fabrics trying to cross the crosswalk.  She was apparently dragged past the southern 7-11 driveway.    Those yellow flasher lights should be at every crosswalk on Lincoln Blvd for sure.

They were putting blinky lights last night at one of the cross walks. I still noticed a lack of blinky at California and Lincoln.

Wow, that's a very sad story.  I drove past around 9:50 – there were about 20-30 people standing on either side of Lincoln looking completely shocked.  I figured the 7-11 may have been robbed.  I hope the city installs flashing cross walks right away.  Naturally, nothing in the news about this.

They need to remove all blinky lights and ALL CROSSWALKS on Lincoln. It' s organized manslaughter to have people crossing Lincoln through all those fast-moving lanes.

According to our neighbourhood watch from that area, in response to this horrible fatality you will see the flashing crosswalk lights at that intersection – Lincoln and Palms within the next 2 months….

Thanks to YoVenice for providing this forum – I'd been searching everywhere for news of this incident.

As a regular biker and runner in Venice, I think the addition of blinky lights to the crosswalks alone won't do it. I've been nearly hit by a car whose driver was on their cell phone who plowed through the blinky light crosswalk in front of the Fox Discount Store on Lincoln. I think LAPD enforcement of these crosswalks is needed too.

Even though Lincoln and Venice Blvd. both have bike lanes, these roads are treated like freeways by drivers.

It would be great to see some changes in 2010 to make Venice more bike and ped friendly.

Hi All,

I was there and witnessed the pedestrian get hit on the morning of Dec 29. He is still in critical condition according to the police who I spoke to a few days ago. He is still alive, that'd the good news. The bad news is that a young woman was killed there a year ago, and that multiple accidents and near deaths of pedestrains are a norm in this dangerous crosswalk.

Please take a moment to email the following people. Use the subject line “Crosswalk Lincoln Blvd/Palms Blvd"

Venice Neighborhood Council:   board@venicenc.org
Bill Rosendahl:   councilman.rosendahl@lacity.org
District Director:   arturo.pina@lacity.org

Yunus Ghausi of CalTrans: yunus_ghausi@dot.ca.gov

Tell them to spend funds on blinking lights, yellow paint, and pedestrian crossing signs at this crosswalk IMMEDIATELY!

Let's get together on this, Venetians!

Best,

Rebecca

Hi Verona,

According to a member of the Venice Neighborhood Council, the official in charge at Cal Trans has been sayng this for YEARS — that in two months there will be improvements. It's a run-around.

See the emails I provided for ALL of us to email officials about this dangerous crosswalk. STOP THE DEATHS AND INJURIES NOW.

Email this guy who is now the mouth piece for CAL TRANS and saying ONCE AGAIN, two months! Tell him he should make sure to keep his word: Yunus Ghausi of CalTrans: yunus_ghausi@dot.ca.gov

Thanks,

Rebecca
