Venetian, why did it take so long to get a tow truck?  Bruffy's Tow can usually get there in 20 minutes.  All City Tow is just as fast.  The only caveat is that you must post a warning that any trespassing vehicle will be towed.

Private single family homes do not require any signs whatsoever to have cars blocking their driveways towed. We do, however, have to go through the proper police parking enforcement channels. This might be why it sometimes takes longer. As I stated above in my post script; the parking enforcement officer told me he'd been caught behind a traffic accident on his way to my home.

öhm, I was blocked saturday night and bruffy said they only come if I call Parking Contorl (didn't even offer a phone number). They then said it can take up to 60 Minutes before they'd come out because 'a lot of people parking illegally' (which seems to be a standard answer).
You can however sign up with Bruffy's. They then recquire that car parked at least 60 Minutes 'illegally'…and some other stuff…

Glad your dog is ok…

Being a homeowner on one of the "lovely" streets, here in Venice, there have been several occasions where people have parked in front of my drive way, my neighbors, and even the alley. Go figure!  Brain death seems to be prevalent in our society, as it is clearly a driveway – helloooooo. So….I have taken the time to print up some nifty signs stating that if they do it again, you will towed away the same way you were towed this time.  What really satisfies me, besides the fact I had them towed, is the fact that they have to scrape the notice that covers the whole drivers side of the windshield, off with a razor blade.  Guess they won't be parking in front of some ones driveway again – at least not mine.

I had a friend who had this problem… and grabbed a doggie poo bag full of doggie poo, and crammed it up and jammed it under the handle of the drivers side door in such a way that they'd be using dental tools to get it all out. Not that I am suggesting that anyone do such a thing… I just thought it was a humorous approach to someone taking parking liberties on private property and blocking a driveway. Glorious.

When I lived on Strongs years ago people always blocked our clearly marked entrance to a double garage my neighbor and I shared.  I loved this neighbor and when parking enforcement took too long to ticket and get the tow truck out to the scene he used to take a little 4 x 6 inch piece of plywood and put some big ass nails thru it … line it up nicely immediately in front the back tires so when he pulled out it wasn't long before he was pulled over…  A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.    I mean if someone in some distress or emergency had to block wouldn't it be the proper thing for them to put  note on their car with a phone # or where they currently are … Geeez!   Glad it worked out ok in the end.

My garage is in an alley, and occasionally I have people blocking it.  My garage door swings, not a roll up, and I open it from the inside.  It usually takes four or five really good heaves on my part to put a nice garage door colored mark on the passenger side of the car.  I don't think it has any deterrent affect, but I really feel better afterward.  Waiting for Traffic Control to come out is a bit of a pain.  Sorry to hear about your crap neighbor.

Good point. I used to live in a small town backeast, but most of it was built 170 years ago and therefore had very little parking. My neighbors would park me in when thier friends would visit if they thought I wasn't leaving – but ALWAYS left a note on the car in case I had to get out. It was fine with me. I realize this is a different situation, who wants to wait for a stranger to hike back from the beach? -but still, not to leave a note?? I have no sympathy for those towed.

Great! So a massive truck parks in front of my driveway & I go outside to see what's up. There is actually plenty of space one car up for the truck to park without blocking anything. I walk around the idling truck looking for the driver and when I realize he isn't there I say [outloud] to the truck "Unbelievable!". I look around it again to see if I can see where the driver is & notice the neighbor standing out on her stoop I ask her if she saw anything & before I get a word out she begins screeching at me that I have no right to talk to her the way that I do. This is the same woman whose guests regularly block my driveway. Now I have only ever been polite to this woman despite the fact that she bows noxious smoke into my home all day & half the night. The same woman who I have to hear screaming at her baby, her nanny & her maid all day long. And screaming at her boyfriend half the night. Their tree attacking my home that they refuse to get trimmed even though the branches are breaking my windows WTF? I asked her what she meant about not liking the way I spoke to her. She said that when she was five months pregnant I yelled at her for blocking my driveway. I do not have any recollection of this incident and I keep records of every car that blocks my driveway. It was freakish. But wait, she was just getting warmed up, she then goes on to threaten my dogs! She has a dog she lets run around in the streets & snap at everyone that passes by but she's threatening my dogs. My dogs that are never off leash. My dogs that have all earned their AKC canine good citizen certificates. My dogs whom I never walk without a bottle of water incase they pee on a lawn & many bags so that no poop gets left behind. I had thought she was a nice, albeit thoughtless, neighbor before but she's acting all bipolar or something. Someone here once said something about getting a mediator to help with neighbor disputes. I need one of those. If she harms one of my dogs… The constantly instructing her guests to block my driveway, the 24/7 screaming & the blowing smoke into my home at all hours, the freakin' invasive tree have to Stop!  I had been unreasonably cool about all of these nuisances until she threatened my dogs. Now I am not feeling even remotely neighborly. All I can say is that this spastic woman with no job & a nanny & a maid… well I clearly care far more about my dogs than she does her baby. Anything happens to one of my dogs…. I may snap.

Venetian, you can legally trim the part of the tree that hangs over your property line without her permission.

Was this blowhard the truck driver? Blocking a neghbors driveway/ parking access is a huge no-no, unless there are prior arrangements, in any community on the planet.

No. The truck driver was cool. As soon as I found him he apologized & moved. As far as trimming the tree, the way the branches hang I can only get to the part that needs cutting on the neighbor's property. If I just cut the part on my house I will have to hire tree cutters once a month at $1500 a pop. That's not gonna happen in my financial reality.

Check out "GO JACKS". You can lift the wheels of a car and move it out of your way. A little pricey but I would invest in a heartbeat if people were blocking me in.
