It's identity as a destination is slowly coming about but without a bar it's not very well defined.Don't get me wrong. There's a lot of things I like about MV but if you're looking for a place to have a drink or two it's lacking.~Opinions expressed are mine.
Re: MV bars, they're popping up faster than you can say "gentrifuckation"!
Alibi Room, Corner Door, Oldfields, Bigfoot West…
Possibly some of these are technically in Culver City/Palms, but MV on both sides of Washington Blvd gerrymander strip.

There, I fixed it for ya.
I'm mean bars near the intersection of Grandview and Venice Blvd which I consider downtown MV. None of those places are anywhere near DTMV. And if you consider the sprouting up of a watering hole gentrification then I say bring on the gentrifuckation!!!

…commercial indicator of displacement of surf culture by upscale boutique/culinary culture? Most surf shops in CA are close to the beach…it just makes sense.

You could consider Costco a surf shop. They sell surfboards.
