Wow Michael…

That comment stirred me to write Bill in full support of the new program.  I wasn't going to bother but the "strident" nature of YOUR dialog made me angry.

You wrote an email because of Michael's comment, rather than because of the program itself?  Damn, you're easily manipulated, and exactly the kind of person Bill and Arturo must love.

Don't stop there, bud.  If someone makes you angry enough, you should host a homeless RV in your yard.  That'll show 'em.

Actually I was going to wait until the meeting next week when I knew more about the program, but Micheal inspired me not to wait…

They seem not to be noticing the increasingly strident nature of the dialog. They seem not to notice that the vast bulk of residents are against this, and that a significant (not large, but significant enough) segment of us are getting pushed to the breaking point. They lobby for pulling the police out, while seemingly not realizing that the population has changed to the point that in the near future, it's likely to be the RV dwellers who need police protection, not the rest of us.

The VNC will be holding a meeting on March 22 to discuss 85.11 and the Roadmap to Housing Program.  PATH representatives will be in attendance.  As soon as I know the date and time I will post it here.

Rickgarvey-

wow. just wow. why don't you come over here and borrow my apartment for a few weeks? I'm sure that's about how long it will take you watching these terrible people who are terribly "down on their luck" harass and intimidate your family and steal from your home and yard and try to break into your backyard to crap and lurk outside your gate for your wife because they think she'll be easier to scare into giving them something. I bet it takes you a week before you change your incredibly uninformed tune. We've been here for years.

Michael is RIGHT. I keep a "home protection bat" in the bushes now in case we have to chase off the meth freak kid who likes to try to push his way into the yard behind my wife. Who do you think you're scoring points with with your whining? Are you planning on running for the VNC and this is your sure-thing way to a seat? Why would you think that we- the renters and homeowners and tax-paying citizens who live here- don't have a right to defend ourselves against this? You need to shut your damn mouth.

What does the meth freak kid have to do with the RV dwellers ? Does he live in a RV. I'm guessing he doesn't and this is just another example of you yahoos smearing RV dwellers with examples that have nothing to do with RV dwellerrs. For people with a lot of money some of you sure are pretty dumb.

Hey Jack@ss- you forgot to log out of your fake screenname and back into the other one you were using.

And who the hell has a lot of money? We certainly aren't rich. Go back to your campervan and shut up. Or maybe you're the idiot i'm talking about.

God, I am so tired of this. Why, why, why is this even a subject of discussion? It is ILLEGAL to live in your vehicle on city streets. Period. So, when these CRIMINALS come here and harass the citizens of this community, what do the leaders of the community do? Change the laws to allow them to stay?!?!

Why is this even on the table? There is no such thing as a "mobile resident". Sorry, buddy. That is just someone who, in the process of passing through, found out that there are enough people here desperate to seem tolerant and liberal that they will let you run wild over their town so you decided to camp out here indefinitely because the cops won't run you into jail when you break the law.

It's freaking sickening. Nobody in Venice wants a sterile mirror image of Santa Monica for a neighborhood, we just want to be able to walk our dogs down Venice blvd without a pack of disgusting gutter punk idiots throwing beer bottles at us. The problem here is that there is no such thing as "off the grid" living in an urban area. You will alway suck the resources off of someone else who then has to work harder unless you want to go truly "off the grid" and leave civilization entirely.

In no way should we allow a change in the law that is one of our best tools to keep the situation here (somewhat) under control. This is essentially a decriminalization of a behavior that threatens the actual residents of our community. Why punish the people who do the right thing?

Cool. Add more heat to the fire under the pressure cooker that is Venice.

I'm pretty well protected when it explodes. Are you?

The bunch that regularly camp out on my block live in a large van.

They've been in the area since before the summer, so they are eligible for the "streets to homes" program, or whatever it's called now, and Rosendahl will probably allow them to "enroll' even though they clearly have no interest in joining society in any normal way, PATH won't be in a position to help them, and the truth is they don't want help.

As for the "lot of money" bit. That's not me. I'm a renter, and while I manage the rent and a few other nice things, I'm hardly rich by any definition.

Bottom line to me is simple. In the name of "helping people who are down on their luck" we're about to start a program designed to allow anybody who wants to, to camp on our streets and in our parking lots. I have nothing against helping those who need help. I just want the program much more specifically targeted. If people want to continue their freewheeling lifestyles "off the grid," then they should get off the grid. I know many who've done it. I think about it myself from time to time. You can't live in one of the most dense sections of Los Angeles and be off the grid. Period.
