City Attorney Carmen Trutanich talks with Fred Roggin about being a newcomer to City Hall, shutting down marijuana dispensaries, why L.A. shouldn't worry about Arizona's illegal immigration bill and Venice's disgusting RV problem.

OfflineI hope the cure isn't worse than the disease.
The changes wouldn't be happening without the attention, but the attention is really cementing Venice with Human Sewage Dumping in the public's mind. Globally.
At some point soon when this is all straightened out we are really need to repair our image with a massive PR campaign. We should be allocating some of next year's budget for that.
One of my favorite quotes:
"Be more careful not to Miss once than to Hit a hundred times.
No one looks at the blazing sun; all gaze when he is eclipsed. The common talk does not reckon what goes right but what goes wrong. Evil report carries farther than any applause. Many men are not known to the world till they have left it. All the exploits of a man taken together are not enough to wipe out a single small blemish. Avoid therefore falling into error, seeing that ill-will notices every error and no success."

You mean like:
"Venice, Its not just for raw sewage anymore!!!!"
"Venice smells good, (clap clap clap), like a hometown should!"
"We dropped the dime on the crime: come back to Venice"
"What ever happens in Venice, stays quickly disposed of by trained Technicians!".
"I 'love' (heart sign) visiting Venice Beach, 500 transient criminal addicts can't be wrong!"
OK, no career in advertising for me! Maybe Don Draper has some time.

OfflineNo, I think you are getting close to something.
What if we went out into the desert and spelled:
"IT'S SAFE, COME BACK TO VENICE"
With RVs so you could read it from a helicopter, and then after some inspirational music ( a la chariots of fire) detonated them all, in slow motion.
Perhaps with Nicholas Cage diving to safety at the last possible moment?
OR Alternately,
Same idea, only the message this time reads:
"VENICE, THE Porta Potty THING WAS JUST A JOKE"
Only this time we cut to Robin Williams just before the explosion and show him depressing the "plunger" on the detonator!
ALL Joking aside, How AWESOME is it that this guy is on tv talking about about the crackdown?
He could have gone on there and said "oh a few residents are complaining" or "it really wasn't a big deal" but instead he is standing up and delivering. He actually said that this is a common practice, there have been many incidents since and they are testing everything to make sure it is safe (building the case!).
I love it.

OfflineYou guys are just now realizing how much damage has been caused to Venice because of all the lies?
It's so sad. Propaganda was generated and exaggerated to promote an agenda against the homeless. This is a fact. While I acknowledge something had to happen, people like Boston Dawna spreading flat out lies made Venice look terrible. The Rose lot was not a "Bio Hazard" and there is nowhere near 800 RVs in Venice dumping everywhere. That makes me question everything else she said.

I don't think many people here think of it as "damage" Mario. It's not propaganda. We've seen more dumps than have been reported in the news. I personally have seen it. And apparently RVs DO catch fire and damage private property. Venice only looks terrible to people who don't care to live by her laws. The rest of us are finally getting relief from the criminal carnival that has gone on too long here. At one time, it was small and tolerable by the good people of Venice. You guys took advantage of that kindness and turned Venice into an open sewer. Well, there are more of us than you, it's a democracy, majority wins. So, while it seems sad to you, even though you "live" in Santa Monica, to the rest of Venice, these are good days.

I think it's you who are completely full of sh i t.
You have an excuse for everything, even a tacit acknowledgement that the RV dwelling life is unacceptable all the while holding yourself up as an example of someone doing it right.
Obey LAMC 85.02; it's called "citizenship", you should try it sometime.

Actually, I've had two friends tell me in the last two days that they hear Venice is really cleaning up. One lives in DC and the other in Malibu. Upon further probing, I learned that both had read the NY Times article. So thanks Ian Lovett!
There is no damage being done to Venice – that's been done. We're moving out of the craphole phase and we're now moving in to the reparation phase of brand Venice. I while I appreciate your concern, but it's really not necessary Mario. We'll be fine.

*****************************************************************************
Uhhhh………… What lies???????
I have been reading this in various places on line and in emails forwarded to me from my contacts who get communications from the dark side and this seems to be the latest theme, that YoVenice spreads lies……
I mean, Barbara Peck, from the Spirit of Venice website claims that there have been no "dumpings" as she can find no mention of them on online police reports….. but hey, she also has suggested that the residents saved up all of that sewage and dumped it on the street and Boston D "set up" the people who were accused of dumping it……. I assume we kept the vat in Mark Ryavec's garage???????
Please, I would like to see this list of lies?????

Like your slogans – mine were a bit tongue-in-cheek of course. I loved that news clip too, he kind of took it to the viewers: "…would you let this happen in front of your home?"
