Venice SteelerFan, I got the same form email from Lizka Mendoza at the park. Great to hear that you talked to Laura Island and that she is willing to write the letter "if required to". Let's let her know that we need her to write this letter immediately.

and request oversize vehicle overnight parking restrictions signs on all sides of Oakwood Park. The park is in the middle of a dense residential community and we really need OVO restrictions to deal with this already big problem which is bound to get worse as OVO signs go up in surrounding blocks.

It's good to hear she did not give you that run around about the Park Advisory Board. People, we need your help to get some action here.

agreed. it is still up to us to ask Laura Island 310.837.8116 to do this. Arturo & Lizka say they need a letter from her. She called me back today and is checking with her supervisor to see if it is her. She feels that it shouldn't be a park thing as it is on the other side of the fense but she will write it if she is required to. Shovelling through the BS to find out who we even need to talk to about this is frustrating but we're in so let's get it done.

I will call.

BUT, it is not JUST the west side of the park with the problem. There are RV's on the north side also. And, if any sides are excluded, then that's where the RV's will be parked. If you really have a concern for the community, and not just for your side of the park, then include the whole park.

Just as we should be pushing for these signs all over Venice.... :-)

Hello Everyone.

I have been asking for these signs to go up and Arturo P led me to Lizka M and I have talked to her before. She has responded to my request with the following:

Good Day!

I received your email in regards to having Oakwood Recreation Center write a letter to the Department of Transportation requesting oversize vehicle parking restriction signs at Oakwood Park.

The issue of RV parking on the west side of 7th avenue (Rec Ctr) side has been an ongoing community concern. I have attempted to tackle the issue on several occasions at the park on several levels.

Oakwood
Recreation Center currently has a Park Advisory Board (PAB) that
advises me (the Facility Director) on issues such as this which concern
the park; they are the heartbeat of the community. In 2009, I brought
this same issue up to the PAB about excessive RV parking. At that time,
the PAB made a motion to not have parking restrictions on the west side of 7th ave since it has never had parking restrictions before.

Understanding the community concern is important. I
urge you to attend the next Park Advisory Board meeting to voice your
concern to our PAB. The next PAB meeting will be held on October 29,
2010 at 6:30pm. If you would like to place this issue on the PAB agenda,
please let me know and I will do so.

As
you may be aware, Oakwood Recreation Center is part of the Department
of Recreation & Parks for the City of Los Angeles. While it is in my
realm to oversee community concerns as it pertains to the park, the
final approval of writing a letter to DOT would have to come from the
Department of Recreation & Parks and not Oakwood Recreation Center
itself. Also, feel free to contact my supervisor Laura Island at Region Headquarters at (310) 837-8116.
