Venice Action and the Venice Beachhead have weighed in with their "No OPD's" campaigns as noted, now the Venice Stakeholders Association is promoting their pro OPD campaign around town. Click on the images to enlarge them or read them here!

Very nice. However, saying "If you want to increase parking on your street, open this letter," is a little confusing,IMO.

I don't want to increase parking on my street. I want to increase the availability of parking.

Increasing parking sounds like a problem.

IF YOU HAVE NOT, PLEASE VOTE ON THE VNC ONLINE STRAW POLL

It is encouraging that the VNC is actually asking for resident opinion… You do not have to sign up for the VNC newsletter to vote, but any communication to stakeholders should be taken advantage of for obvious reasons.

Has the VNC poll closed?

EDIT: looks like it reopened.

Seems kind of shady that OPDs were winning 80% of the vote - then they shut down the poll - now it's back and it's neck and neck (at least OPDs are still ahead at 58%)...

Update - the poll is shut down again - upgrading to extremely shady - looks like they opened up the poll only temporarily to get all of their anti-OPD votes in - and then closed it.  More underhanded tactics from the VNC. What a farce!!!

I noticed the sudden bump in No OPD voting, as well.

Hahaha.

The VNC is now manipulating the poll where they were getting their ass kicked.

Shocking!

We have a few of the flyers and postcards left.

If you want one, just send us an email at venicestakeholders@ca.rr.com

Mark

P.S.  The hearing is at 8:30 AM on the 13th at the Long Beach City Council chambers.  We would welcome all supporters to show up and support the settlement and the application for a Coastal Development Permit for OPD.  More info at venicestakeholdersassociation.org

BTW, the Commission's staff report is favorable and recommends passage of OPD.

Clarification:

I just got an email from a former VNC Board Member questioning whether Brooks would be eligible for OPD.  The short answer is yes.

The Beachhead article on OPD was purposefully incorrect on this point, stating that all the streets west of Main Street would be ineligible.  That's false.

All the streets west of Main would be eligible for OPD except the metered spaces on Washington, Venice, Windward and Main.  A few short stretches on Main Street that front on government or commercial uses - dog park, school, MTA lot, Google, parking lot - would also be ineligible for OPD.  Most of the ineligible spaces are metered.  All portions of Main with ground floor residential are eligible for OPD.

Thus, Pacific, 18th, Market, Horizon, Brooks, Westminster and Rose are eligible for OPD.  If the residents there petitioned by 2/3rds for OPD, any resident of Venice could park there with a $15 annual permit.  OPD would free up more parking for residents of the walk streets by forcing non-residents to park elsewhere at night.
