Last week I talked with Joe Hari, the Mayor’s Westside Rep………neither the Mayor nor Deputy Mayor Frank were available……….about 3rd Ave Skid Row and Violence in Venice.Following that conversation, I’m not looking for the Mayor standing up and helping Venice.
Violence? Joe said combating illegal activity is the responsibility of LAPD and the Mayor supports that.
Venice’s Skid Row? Homelessness is a regional problem; the Mayor is looking at the problem. Plans, ideas the Mayor may have? Sadly, I got nothing concrete.
I was told that Venice has a history of transients and it made sense to keep them in Venice rather than create situations where they move to other locations. Joe asked what is wrong with people sleeping on Venice’s streets/sidewalks if they prefer to do that? If they just did not want social services or do not want to change their lives?
I did not pull out all my hair.
So Mark, once again I’ll contact our Mayor and Rosendahl and tell them I think a visible corrective action from them is needed.
I'm sure officials in the city would say that Joe's comment is not true………….but bottom line is that it seems to be the case in Venice whether anyone in the city fesses up to it or not.

OfflineI do not see Joe as the problem here. There is no need to attack him.
And I stand by what I wrote. It is the result of many conversations Joe and I have had; the last being last week.
What I wrote also reflects what I see as a lack of care and inaction for the residents of Venice coming from the Mayor's Office after meetings with his Deputies over the past two years.

Offlineprinted and sending it… I went to search for the email list for all those 'important' people. I have a few but would love to just have them all again. Anybody have a list?
I sent Arturo and Bill another email after this weekends activities but again no response.

Go to the top of this website and where it says "Venice 411" there is a drop down menu with tons of contact numbers – for this you are looking for the "Government Contact List". When we removed the Wiki (due to spam), we transferred the information to the drop down menus on the home page.

I see Joe as the only one in the city who has been honest about where the City is coming from on this issue and why the City is doing nothing about it. It's reasoning doesn't justify it's lack of action by any means.
