Councilman Rosendahl spoke like a politician,"Gang Czar" Jeff Carr was informative regarding what his department does, the original press release was read and a handful of people in the audience made ridiculous rambling comments.
What I learned… it appears not many witness's are speaking up out of fear, Venice is not included as an official LAPD gang zone ( would provide more funds for this type of stuff if it was). Everything else said we already knew from prior reports.
I did leave with the feeling that the LAPD Pacific Divison DOES know what they're doing when it comes to homicides and will probably find the shooter (8 homicides this year including the 2 most recent, 6 solved).

Thanks for that update. I guess it's a positive sign that VENICE is not on the LAPD Gang Zone considering how bad it was only 11 or so years ago.

It's the local neighborhood branch of the government. They liason with the district and city and provide an outlet for local concerns. I don't think they have any "real" power, but they are asked to conduct studies and provide recommendations on topics such as: Homeless / Vehicular living (i.e. all those people living in RV's scattered throughout Venice), Land Use & Planning, Parking, etc. I have yet to figure out if those recommendations have very much impact.

It is actually not a branch of government at all. This is a completely independent group of concerned Venice stakeholders (renters, owners, student, and workers) who, through local Venice community elections, are elected to various positions to represent us to local government. I am not sure they have much power either, but they do have some influence and have helped move a number of initiatives forward, and we know that someone out there is looking out for us.
