Maisie538, I think you've really nailed the dilemma.

Yes Maisie538.  You got it.  The proceeds were divided equally by the heirs.  Unfortunately, way too much of the below market sale proceeds were eaten up by the Court appointed Receiver.

Now if there was a Extreme Makeover: Legal Advise they may have faired better.

I agree that some legal advice might have averted this disaster for this family. Prehaps if LAFLA and the like wasn't so occupied fighting "bogus traffic violations" and city efforts to remove garbage piles from public property, they might have actually been able to do some good and keep some people in their homes.

"Tired of the Disrespect" thanks for clearing up the story. The story of the 'evil brother' sounded like literary BS to me. The blogger had an agenda and wrote a story to support the agenda.

As far as legal help goes-you can philosophise all you want, but in essence some people can't handle to rigors of home ownership. This home was gifted into their laps, but with decades (I'm guessing here) of poor work habits, drinking, drugs, bastard children, and on and on (you know the types) this 'opportunity' slid through their fingers like sand.

I'll be honest with all, I just don't waste my time trying to help disfunctional people, if they want help and are willing to put on their boots and get with the program I'll help them all I can.

Not guessing, projecting.

I'm inclined to believe tiredofthedisrespect's take since he's so plugged in to the Venice real estate scene, but your assumptions about the remaining members if the Gonzales family says a lot more about you than it does them.

Just watched one of the guys (a son?) who hang out front of the old house scoring on Cabrillo and on Market for the 4th time this week. I guess in front of the empty lot on Abbott Kinney is a little too busy to have your dealer drive up, so he rides over a block to meet up. Same car each time, simple ride up and exchange. Yesterday it was right next to a couple trying to calm a crying baby. Stay classy.

One more example of an upstanding citizen from that family-so sad, but not unexpected.

You know , lately, I keep having the experience of logging on to Yo! Venice, and thinking i logged on to Free Republic or Stormfront by mistake.

I've lived in this town since 1960, and I love it dearly – but maybe it's time to move on.

Yeah, it's time. Not bitter about it – it's just reality. Time goes on, and things change. Anyway, I've lived here a long time and enjoyed it, and there's always some new place to go. Change is good, and you have to carry your happiness inside of you – you can't depend on getting it from your external surroundings. I won't spend my life resenting or grieving over things lost, so – time to move on.

PS: LOL on the Fark meme. Earlier I was screwing around on Fark and decided I was bored and should quit and check out Yo Venice – and before I've been here 5 min., somebody hits me with the "Well, Bye" meme. Figures. :D
