Yo! Venice! forum contributor Alex Rose is a disaster response planner with the Red Cross of Los Angeles who is fund raising to support the Red Cross humanitarian mission this coming weekend by running in a 5K at Dodger Stadium with many other local Red Cross volunteers.

Help support Alex and his team by clicking here. You can also make a $10 donation by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

If you have any questions about disaster preparedness (for tsunami's, earthquakes, floods and house fires), feel free to ask Alex for advice in the forum thread that accompanies this post!

I'd like to thank Bret and all of the YoVenice community for the support!

I'm not an expert by any means, but my responsibilities with American Red Cross are developing plans and partnerships to support our community in the aftermath of a large scale disaster. I do this along side some truly inspiring, committed, well trained and passionate volunteers, some of whom also live in Venice! If anyone is curious, I'd be happy share what Red Cross and other agencies are doing at the local level and describe in further detail the plans and guides that are being developed for large scale emergencies.

One of the most important things to me is ensuring that our neighbors are prepared to sustain their own families in the aftermath of a disaster along the lines of what Japan is facing. If you have any questions about that, I'd be eager to point you to some resources to help you get ready.
