The building at 585 E. North Venice that previously housed Sammy's Camera is being remodeled for a Quiksilver retail store. Quiksilver operates more than 834 stand-alone stores around the globe and from the looks of it, this is going to be a pretty large store!

Quicksilver Venice Beach

Quiksilver, Inc is headquartered in Huntington Beach. It one of the world's largest manufacturers of surfwear and other boardsport-related equipment and includes the Roxy, DC, Hawk, Raisins, Radio Fiji and Leilani brands.

A retail corporate giant moves to AK and opens a big-box.

What we need next is an Urban Outfitters and a Pottery Barn.

There goes the neighborhood.

Well, on one hand I think it's kinda cool and on the other I'm not so sure about having such a large chain store here.  Given the size and possible success of this store, it could be precedent setting.

However, Quicksilver did host a bunch of cool gatherings at the Stronghold a few years back.  I think it was called Quicksilver Mission.  If they bring some of those type of functions in and create a space for people to gather rather than just purchase things that would be cool.

Quiksilver are an iconic brand. my uncle  ( I lie … someone genetically closer, but not my momma and not my bro, Eddie Aikau ) used to surf with Wayne Bartholomew ( early team rider ), Mark Occhilupo and his mentor Nat Young, all 3 from OZ.

what started off as a very small brand, ( like Rip Curl from Bells Beach Yo! )  has grown exponentially. nothing wrong with that.

big respect & welcome.

Scott get off the fukn fence.

i look forward to Deus motorcycles opening on Lincoln, too. neither are like pottery barn, urban or walmart. promise.

think economy & jobs. feel VERY grateful they both chose you, Venice.  smacked bottoms for the haters.

I happy someone took over that space. Surfing and beach wear…..I think Quicksilver will fit in nicely.

It seems strange that QS would have a flagship store on 3rd Street Promenade and then open another just a few miles away.

I'll bet that they're going to vacate the SM location and move it all over here. With lease rates on 3rd they gotta be bleeding cash.

Besides that they may see AK as the next big tourist attraction.

Well, I bet the "Venice Unchained" folks will have their panties in a bunch over this. Whatever happened to them, anyway?

this is a bad look for the neighborhood and a really bad look for quiksilver.

the store will not be successful.

no one here wears quicksilver, and the ones that do get it for free or get it from hand me down or have had it for years.

If i was quik i would open a small quicksilver surf shop with a really cool hand selected assortment of vintage quik and newer styles that are vintage inspired. I'd sell one of a kind surfboards, surf movies, surf accessories. Make it feel more like a cool neighborhood surf shop.

Instead this giant space will be a big waste of money for sure.

Quick's core customer does not reside in Venice, nor do the tourists they attract visit Venice.

This shop will not be here more than 5 years.

Man what a cool space.  I would love to see a venue for music and maybe even showing classic\indie films move in there.  Could even make an amazing pool hall.  I think if Quicksilver isn't successful they will setup the next business nicely with all the updates and remodeling.  I have a feeling it won't work for them.  I think most people driving by have the beach in mind.. and not really incline to quickly pulling over to shop for Quicksilver stuff and the foot traffic on AK will have no idea they are over there.  I am willing to wait to see what exactly they do before I put in my two cents on how they use that space… but I do hope it isn't just a ton of boring retail.
