Noticed the LAPD have a perimeter set up on Westminster near Main (by the school.)  Airship circling for a while.  If my Blood Glucose hadn't been running low, would have checked to see what is up.  Maybe some of you know.

Guess it's just another Labor Day in Venice :)

They also have blocked Riviera at Westminster, it's supposed to be a man with a gun running amok…

Sounds narcotics related. They have not said it is gang related, nor did I hear anything about a gun.

Click here to listen .. the link is in the "links" section on the home page.

Police presence extends at least to Electric and Brooks.  Police asking everyone off the street.  Said they have an occupied burglary in the neighborhood and are trying to figure out where.

Apparently they're looking for someone who was involved in a home invasion crime and is confirmed to be in the area.

Lisa writes in lots of cops "near Brooks & Main … police told me if i leave the area, I might not be let back in, until they catch the guy (armed robbery suspect)."

They're still up there. We were walking down AK around 8pm and they had it closed off at San Juan. We asked the cop what was going on and he sarcastically replied " we're looking for someone". This better end before bedtime! So annoying.

I live near Brooks and 7th, and was on foot from Whole Foods around 8:15. Passed two squad cars right close to my house and asked if anything was going on I should be concerned about (I'd seen the cordon on my way to and from my walk earlier), and they told me, not any more, it was over. Let's hope.

There is a reason why I don't put up information like "The suspect is a 30-year-old, Hispanic man with a "Venice" tattoo across his chest" like other websites or twitter people in town.

This is a small community. There are a lot of Hispanic males with "Venice" tattooed across their chests. To put that description out there without a name or picture is just inviting a lot of trouble against all the other Hispanic guys with Venice tattoos that have nothing to do with this specific individual. I don't think that is right.

The LAPD already said they know who the guy is, but have not released his name or picture. If this suspect is "bad ass" enough to warrant a helicopter for three hours and shutting down a ton of streets and huge numbers of LAPD officers, they should just release his name and picture as a "wanted suspect".

That was definitely not why I posted the link, it seemed to have a detailed summary on what was going on in the neighborhood last night, I didn't even think that this particular piece of info would incite stupidity, but in retrospect – of course! And in re-reading it – maybe it doesn't have that much new detail…

I'll take it down if you think the hate message overshadows the news – but maybe it should stand to point this out?!

Either way – thanx for pointing it out to my sleepy mind!!

I am friends with Samantha who edits Patch. I can assure you it isn't a "hate message".

That said, when you do hyper-local news sometimes what you leave out is just as important as what you add in.

No "exclusive" or "breaking" news scoop is worth creating hysteria that may get an innocent person hurt.
