The recently closed Historic Venice Post Office building and the surrounding sidewalks got  a cleanup on the 3rd of July thanks to The Teen Project (PAD), The Venice Surf & Skateboard Association (VSA) and Jack Durston's High Power Pressure Washing! Shirts were provided by The Ave and Ray Rae took the pictures!

The Teen Project's “The Venice PAD“, a drop in center for homeless teens that opened in February at 76 Market St., has recently been doing numerous neighborhood cleanups, including the post office and Market Street!

If you are a local business (or homeowner, or neighborhood group) that would like to help out by putting these great kids to work, sweeping or power washing or … pretty much anything you may need help with … get in contact with the Venice PAD! Any and all funds that are collected by the group for such projects goes straight to helping the "at risk" teens, none of it gets used for administrative costs!

Thanks so much to these awesome groups for this gift! I have always wondered why the Post Office didn't have any concern for how filthy it has been in front of and around this magnificent building. Better late than never.

I sent the photos to Joel Silver suggesting he pay The Teen Project to clean-up the site twice a week but have not received a reply to the suggestion.

what does it say about how things are run when a federal agency lets things look like that (even when they owned it) and the saviors are the very kids that need the help and they do it for free?!  i hope that they do get a contract from this for their work.  i also hope when they are in positions of power someday they do a better job of running this ship than clearly we do.

since when did our society have to wait for "alms for the poor" to get the proper care and maintenance for our community upkeep?!  not the america i know.  there is a leak somewhere between the check i write for property taxes and the point of it's application for our city services.  pathetic.

Did anyone take a gander at the old post office when they were at the carnival? It's a hazmat nightmare less than ten days after all the hard work those awesome kids put into cleaning it up. A coupla blanket wrapped humans with their largish collection of scavenged goods were all moved in at the top of the stairs too. Also of note, the Farmer's Market lot and parts of North Venice appear to be a well established asylum/slum/camp again as of 9:pm last night.

They are also working their way into the neighborhoods too.

last week i cruised around from pier to pier around 10-11pm, i saw many areas being used as storage, and a lot of trash…(only in venice)

during the day one just has to stroll down OFW to see the hundreds, yes hundreds of "campers" hanging out at the beach,

I was wondering where are they all sleeping, or going to the bathroom?
