OfflineI'd like the City and people of Los Angeles to begin treating the 40,000 who live in the Venice Community as neighbors who deserve the same respect for their lives at home which they expect for themselves. That would be nice.
The parking sucks in Venice. The vast majority of the dwellings in the couple of block next to the beach do not offer parking for all those who have automobiles who live in them. The result is that residents, businesses and visitors all compete for parking, especially in the areas closer to the beach where the biggest shortage of parking exists. Since the early 1980's residents who need to park on the street are unlikely to find a space upon returning after noon on weekends. Compare the situation with Santa Monica. The Santa Monica beaches all have big parking lots next to them. The City provides multilevel parking structures for the Promenade area. The streets all have parking, and the residential areas have lots of parking. While both areas seek visitors only Santa Monica makes the least effort to accommodate visitors, businesses and residents. Any efforts to increase visitors to the area without creating parking for those attractions is kind of adolescent like irresponsibility, a break for freedom without any willingness to accept responsibility for the consequences.
People have a right to peaceful and quiet enjoyment of their premises, even the residents of Venice. However, the attorneys staffing the office of the City Attorney disagree. They claim that any noise originating from popular gathering places during the day is not covered by the City noise ordinance because no jury from Los Angeles would enforce them. The result is that there is no effective enforcement of any noise ordinance violations caused by the City's efforts to turn Ocean Front Walk into a low cost and funky miles long performance area. Instead, the City should respect the rights of people to be free of captive listening in their homes and seek ways to facilitate performance areas that allow audiences to enjoy the attractions while keeping the noise from echoing into residential areas.
If you want a simple statement, it would be nice if following the golden rule was normal for people to do in Venice, because it certainly is not for way too many people, now.

OfflineLTR, you can't point at Santa Monica and then tell Los Angeles we want to be treated like Santa Monica. It's its own city.
Much as I agree with your desire for (and right of) quiet enjoyment, Venice is in a unique situation in Los Angeles, so it's a little hard to apply the golden rule. The rest of LA probably thinks: "you get to live by the beach, quit whining".

I would like to see large parking structures east of Lincoln with a shuttle to the beach. Then, I would like to see permit parking in all the Venice neighborhoods.
Who is to pay for your parking structure? Do you have any idea of how much it costs per space to build a parking structure? And what are you proposing they do with the 1000's of acres of existing beach parking lots? If you want parking where you live then rent or buy a place that has parking included. You knew the parking situation when you moved here. The next thing you're going to ask for is reduced traffic on the public streets. Shall we ban cars from outside zip code 90291?

I'd love to see Roadblocks on Lincoln from Rose all the way to Washington. Make tourists park East of Lincoln and bus/shuttle/walk to the beach. We could get gates, and security guards, and…oh, wait – that's malibu…

OfflineWell, since you've all been such good sports, here's another one:
I'd like to see Venice, Marina Del Rey, Westchester, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, unite and break away from the bloated city of Los Angeles and the bankrupt state of California, to form the 51st state.
And now you can really let me know how you feel.
Disclaimer: Just in case, I'm only talking about what I'd like to see and NOT actually calling for it or instigating it in any way.
