OfflineFinally the city is proposing that valet services be licensed and insured.
One of the provisions is that they can't park on city streets without the public permission. Exactly how this works I don't know.
Nonetheless, our own Linda Lucks was quoted as saying:
Linda Lucks, president of the Venice Neighborhood Council, said at the committee meeting Friday she had learned of the proposed ordinance only recently and sought more time for residents to help shape it. "I don't get the need to fast track it," she said in an interview. "I guarantee the Westside will want to speak up."
I guess she doesn't see that there is a problem with the valet services as is!

Hey Shanty,
This is an interesting development. If you're following it would you keep us all updated as things occur?

OfflineBe fair folks – This was pretty much sprung on the public and Councilman Bill brought it to our attention only recently, and really, I'm not sure of the details, nor do I know how my neighbors feel either. Hell, I'm afraid to give any views about the development on Rose (I live right up the street) without upsetting some of my neighbors for one reason or another! Talk to any two of them and you get three opinions and an argument!! Linda is right and we need more time to figure the best way for every street rather than building a model on one and forcing it on the others…… But within reason…….

OfflineSaltwater,
The City of Los Angeles Venice Land Use Plan already states that Valets cannot use public right of ways and Valet parking must be on private lots. I hear those near Abbot Kinney complain about valets parking on their streets. Problem is that the city doesn't monitor this. It's up to the residents to police their streets. BTW Does anyone know where La Cabana's valets park cars?

How does that square with the metered parking spaces I see that become valet loading zones after a certain hour? Or is that just in SM?

OfflineRegulations for valet parking in the coastal zone are there only to protect the 'beach goers'. If we weren't near the beach we would not have this protection. But then again we wouldn't have the coastal regulations regarding preferential parking (not being able to get it). Coastal doesn't care about residents.
