LAPD Officer Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

Los Angeles: An off-duty LAPD Officer stands accused of sexual assault following a holiday celebration at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport.

Police Officer Eduardo Bermudez, 29 years of age, assigned to Pacific Area Patrol Division, two years on the Department, was arrested Sunday morning, December 7, 2008, at around 8:00 a.m. by detectives assigned to Internal Affairs Division.  Officer Bermudez was booked for California Penal Code Section 664-261, Attempt Rape.  Officer Bermudez was booked at Men’s Central Jail and was held on $100,000 bail.

Based on preliminary information, it appears that a sanctioned LAPD Pacific Area holiday party had concluded and several Department employees were participating in an unofficial “after party” at the hotel.  When allegations of criminal activity came to light, proper notifications were made and on-duty police supervisors and Internal Affairs Division investigators were dispatched.

Internal Affairs Division has assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Internal Affairs Division at 213-473-3870.  After-hours and on weekends calls may be directed to the 24-hour, toll-free number, 1-877-LAPD24-7 (527-3247) or texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with LAPD.  Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website, and can remain

Seems like she got what she wanted.

Pacific Division cop's alleged rape victim also is a cop

The victim in the alleged sexual assault by an LAPD officer at a hotel near LAX is also an LAPD officer, their chief said today.

Pacific Division Officer Eduardo Bermudez, 29, was arrested about 8 a.m. Sunday and held on $100,000 bail. He bailed out late Sunday.

The incident occurred shortly after a sanctioned LAPD Pacific Area holiday party ended. Some went to an unsanctioned after-party at the hotel, where an alleged rape
occurred, police said.

"The alleged victim is also a police officer," police Chief William Bratton told KCAL-TV
today.

Bratton declined to say whether the alleged victim also works in the Pacific Division.

He is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 6.

so what happened VB?  if he WAS found guilty then the question would be why is he still a police officer?  if he was NOT he convicted by a jury of his peers then that would explain why he is allowed to continue on with his life and his profession.  and it will be clear you have an agenda about this unrelated incident.

and i would say that venice is actually the next downtown skidrow before i would ever say rampart.  the cops i have dealt with here seem to give more of a sh*t than half of the residents about the state of things.  they just are getting F*Cked by their attorney's fear of lawsuits and what ever other power-brokering seems to be going on to keep this place a dump by the sea.

You are way off topic here. You might want to start a new thread.

Seriously, why in the world wouldn't you have simply accepted the directive. Obviously you're a good walker and scooting over to Pacific, relatively well lit and a reasonable alternative, and gone home. Kind of late to push an issue, wait for some amount of time just to get your way when you could have gone home.

Sometimes it's simpler to accept what life hands you at 1am and keep it gracious.

At 1am, I definitely would be more interested in getting home than fighting with policie.

But then I like the police (so far the ones I've seen in Venice have been patient and accepting and often cute).

Should the Boardwalk have a curfew? Reasonable question for maybe 9am with fresh coffee and a good nights sleep.

Silly.

She gets super mad about all sorts of white girl problems. Just ignore her. Everyone else does.

If this story is true and complete -- and that sounds like a big if -- it would be troubling that so many people think that it was appropriate for the officer to arrest the woman.

late on the thread..have to share my amusement.

"…we will make our civil-rights stand another time"

well then THIS time you get harassed and detained by a rapist cop.

IMHO

the longer you wait to "stand up for your rights" the harder it becomes.

perhaps its time to consider gating the beach from marine to the marina

build the VNC into a robust community association that can begin to force

out all residents with an average annual income of less than $200K

(owners and renters alike)

hell!.. a community association like that could dictate how your house looks from the street!

VENICE could be a DREAM!…like Malibu Colony!

hahahahahahaha…next time call TAXI TAXI!

I stand corrected.

If this story is true and complete — and that sounds like a big if — it would be troubling that so many people think that it was appropriate for the officer to handcuff the woman and detain her for an hour.
