Hi All – Is anyone out there growing their own food? My wife and I are attempting a garden, but we are unexperienced and just trying to figure it out as we go.

Some communities, like Silverlake, have Organic Gardening groups and food exchanges to add to the diversity of thier home grown diets as well as share tips and knowledge.

Is anyone interested in helping put together a similar group here in Venice?

I had a small deck garden for the first time last summer and had a lot of fun with it -- made a lot of mistakes, but definitely learned from them.

I would absoultely be up for some sort of group/swap if it was started!

Same here, our new place had room for a small Deck Garden….Lettuce did badly, Scallions grew like wild, as do all kinds of Peppers and Chiles….Meyer Lemon Tree is also bearing fruit after 9 Months….Home Depot GArden Center was a great spot, very helpful folks and fairly cheap sprouted plants….I found that with a Deck Garden/ Potted Plants you need to use a stronger fertilizer as your Soil is limited….I also like the garden center where the 90 ends, though it can be a little pricey for some things…I like the Long Wooden Flower Boxes to use as Herb Garden Planters for Basil, Rosemary, Parsley, etc…..Keep your Mint in a separate pot, as it will take over everything (or make loads of Mojitos to keep it in check)

I'd love to hear what people are planting now, if anything…
