OfflineGood to hear the LAPD is concerned about what appears to be an increase in gang activity. This is a very serious matter that concerns me. I've seen a lot more VSLC tags around Venice lately – and that's not good. Means they are marking their territory, which can only mean a gang war or tension in the future. LAPD needs to get a grip on this before innocent Venice residents get caught in the crossfire, not after. We need a zero tolerance policy toward Gang activity in Venice.

Offlineit is amazing how bad this area has gotten. it is the new 3rd street. always at least 8 carts piled high with junk, at least a dozen people in various positions of repose, smoking and drinking, throwing their garbage everywhere and trampling the bushes. all right where many of us buy our food on friday mornings. lovely. it is a mockery that this is permissible and tolerated – by both sides of the homeless issue. how can anyone argue that this is good for anyone?
i encourage anyone and everyone to pass by and take a look if you have not been recently on a non-friday. most of the junk and people are cleared out for the market – to surrounding lots and lawns – so many market-goers may not even be fully aware of how bad it is on a daily basis.
please write to the powers-that-be…
thanks.

OfflineDriving on Venice North at night, for the last few months, I was amaze that the neighborhood around that area are not complaining and protesting about the “homeless city” that was built on their sidewalk every night, I am glad to see that they do now.
We know what are the issues that come with it, security, health, environment etc., the Canal neighborhood faced this 2 years ago and with the help of the Voice of the Canal and The Canal Association we were able to clean the areas that started to look like downtown skid road. You must fight for your quality of file if you live in Venice, and "live in Venice", I don’t mean homeless living on the sidewalk. Contradicting Linda Lucks, Venice Residents mean people who pay property taxes or rent in Venice.

Offlinethis area is dominated by renters….
most renters don't get involved in city issues, if it becomes to too big an issue with them (car/home broken into, blight, public deification/urination, yelling, fighting, drinking, drugging) they just move to another area in venice, or elsewhere
I am friends with a manager of a 24 unit apartment building nearby who deals with many homeless issues daily, I asked him to vote for the VNC election in Nov., he scoffed "what a waste of time, doesn't matter who wins, nothing will change, and he got angry when I pressed that with his help we may be able to make it change. it got so heated as I tried to educate him on all this, we both decided to end the discussion, I voted, he didn't….

You might want to contact the owner of the building they might have a more positive attitude toward this.

Offlinerecently spoke with officer delatori about this issue…she reiterated to me the need for residents to CALL non-emergency or send emails to the police. this creates the logs that they need in order to put more power into the trouble spots. she has received VERY FEW, if any, calls about this area. she regularly goes to the market and still was unaware of the growing encampment. when i told her it had been growing for about three months, she seemed genuinely shocked (she is technically not the SLO for this are, that is still officer thusing's area).
so please, i urge anyone who uses the market to take a walk or ride or drive by the lot on the N Venice Blvd side -traveling west toward the beach – and see what is happening there. you will be amazed.
please write to the LAPD and help Jim Murez, the community in general, and even the people sleeping there night after night.
