OfflineSince Preferential Parking (PPD) keeps reoccurring in Topics……………
At this point LA City Council has a moratorium on new Preferential Parking Districts (PPD) being established, but that may change in the fiscal year beginning July 1. Watch the Transportation Committee (Rosendahl, Chair) agendas for an action item.
In 2009-2010, the VNC had a Parking Subcommittee chaired by Jim Murez that issued a report in April, 2010, to the Board. The report suggests some ideas on improving parking in Venice one of which is the possibility of PPD.

On page 1, paragraph 4, starting "On the flip side…." states that Venice already has an inventory of extra parking spaces created in building projects since the 1970's that could be used in the same way Santa Monica used parking structures to create spots to trade for PPD. I believe this surplus fulfills the CCC "one to one" requirement. How many spots this involves would take a search of city building records which would go best with Bill Rosendahl's support and staff.
Page 2, para 2, starting "Diagonal Parking…….." opens up the possibility of creating 1000 or so new spots that would be added to the inventory needed for PPD.

Offlineim all for the diagonal parking on streets like windward…but i think we also need to close off the venice circle in all directions…
no one has figured out how to use it, we need to go back to the original plan for windward… close it to traffic from the circle to the beach … but parking permit will not be appreciated… we will not be able to go to our own beach… thats not cool… i hate santa monica for that…

Sorry to harsh your mellow d00d, but it sounds like you have some issues to deal with. In the first place the beach belongs to everyone. It not our own, it's everybody's.

This is an internet forum. I can chime in on anything I want. You don't have to like it.
And just because you proclaim the beach yours and that Americans have no idea what to do on the circle does not make it so.
If the traffic circle poses such a threat to your life then maybe you should do the wise thing and simply avoid it. I for one have never seen a collision much less a fatality occur there.

100% of my neighbors have been for it for over 20 years. My neighborhood would very much appreciate preferential parking.

How on earth would preferential parking inhibit us from going to the beach? If you live in Venice you're walking distance from the beach. Even if you can't be bothered to walk, ride a bike, skateboard, rollerskate, etc… then we still have the beach lots to park in.

OfflineDexter please lighten up.
The only direct advantage to permit parking is that residents will have a fighting chance to park near their homes.
I've lived, since 1984, adjacent to the traffic circle and never witnessed an accident there. I have, on occasion, seen folks on skateboards risking their lives scooting across that circle. That said I think it's a pretty efficient and effective way of melding five streets through that intersection.

OfflineThe problem at the circle is definitely user error. On top of LA drivers being generally retarded – there is the added problem of having so many visiting drivers. Different states/regions have different rules about whether entering or circling vehicles have the right of way at a traffic circle. So bad drivers + people not knowing where they're going + not knowing whether they have the right of way or should yield = mass confusion. Luckily it's really only a problem on the weekend when we're all on our bikes…

That's interesting -- I've never heard of a traffic circle where entering vehicles have right of way. (Not even sure how that would work if there was any kind of volume -- wouldn't you wind up with a huge jam in the circle?)
