Coffee with the Cops

Today, August 7, 4-6 pm at Groundworks Coffee on Rose.

SLO Kristen Delatori and other Cops drink coffee and maybe eat doughnuts and talk with us.  What's bugging us, what do we want from our Cops, what can we do to help them, what else?

Quarterly Block Captains Meeting

Tomorrow, August 8, 6:30 pm at Pacific Division Station, 12312 Culver Bl.

Crime stats, what's going on, what input do you have.  Info and questions. Usually some kind of interesting presentation.

Shanty,

Next meeting is November 14, 6:30pm,  Pacific Station.

I will post before that date.

I don't know if there is a schedule posted anywhere; I get reminders so I figure reminders are emailed to block captains.

Contact your LAPD Senior Lead Officer and ask to be put on the mailing list.  Or email me your contact info and I'll forward it:

The Mrs. and I dropped in for a minute.  Seemed like a good public relations event.  We wanted to touch base with LAPD concerning an abandoned property on our street that has started to become a hangout again for drinking and drug use.  They were aware of the property and seemed to share our concern.  Hoping it puts it on their radar for a few drive by patrols when they aren't too busy with other matters.

I sometimes have concerns about the way LAPD does policing, but I also know it's a very difficult and demanding job.  I think these kinds of events are important, and hope they make them a more regular practice.  I would like to see a bit more emphasis on community based policing in Venice.  Good for us to get to know the LAPD, and I believe it helps them to be more effective.

Just wish that more of the Venice locals wouldn't see the LAPD as the "enemy" or "Big Brother", and also wish that the LAPD would adopt a bit more sensitivity in their methodology.  I think there can be improvements on both sides.

You should have ask them if shooting up heroin on the corner in Venice has been downgraded to an infraction.
