There was a bomb scare in Venice Beach today on Market St. As you can see in the pictures, it appears they diffused a skateboard by blowing it up. Better safe than sorry, so thanks for lookin' out, LAPD.

From eyewitness Ravi: (Click on any of the pictures to make them full size!)

The package was found in front of the building across from Nikkis. In the pictures, you see the cop kneeling at the bomb on the left, then the robot taking it down towards Ocean Front Walk, then the debris alongside of Big Daddy's where there blew the charge at 7:49 pm.

The police wouldn't let me around the corner when they blew it, but, they said it was a false alarm. Nobody hurt. They let Nikkis and the pot shop stay open with entry from the alley.

The moving robot pics are from inside Nikkis. All the Big Daddy workers were outside waiting to go clean up. Larry wasn't there.

My household will observe a moment of silence for the untimely passage of a skateboard who was brutally removed from service before it's time. May you roll free & happy at the skatepark in the sky. R.I.P.

Do you think that Robot can dispose of some of the Transients, Criminals and Losers hanging around Venice? Now that would be a good use of taxpayers funds!

Hey Ravi.  You need to get your facts straight before you try to impress Channel 7 (There's no way they're going to give you a job).  I really don't think they blew up a skateboard.  And I don't think they knelt down next to the so-called bomb to take a good look.  And who exactly did you interview to get your story?  I heard the package, which was closed, and found in front of Big Daddy's, contained skateboard parts.  Hence the MANY wheels scene in your "On-Location" action photos.

This is for you: "A man who doesn't read the paper is uninformed.  A man who reads the paper is misinformed."

Just amazing how wrong Ravi's information is, and he were roaming around the area through the whole  incident.

The package was in front of Big Daddys. The robot blew up the package. The cops were nowhere near it.  He bent down to the robot. It was skateboard parts. You were so busy taking pictures you never looked what you were shooting.

Did you get anything right NO! People wonder why I called some of the people who post lies and misinformed information MORONS.

PAY ATTENTION MORON

GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE YOU POST!

What an amazing waste of police and time. I actually was there at 5:30pm, I saw the small red bag that a kid forgot. I left it so he/she could come back to find his property. Some fool called the police! So, when I was down at Annie's Lemonade helping hire a new employee, I was texted by my crew, the police were shutting down the neighborhood. So, I couldn't get there no matter if I wanted to. So, I went home to watch it all on my CCTV security system. I have it all on tape. I will review it and actually see the child that forgot their bag.

Who is RAVI with all the "facts"? Venetian I agree, this was a waste of perfectly happy skateboard parts.

ps,

I love the rain… but thank God for the sunshine as well!

Hmm  A child left his bag???  Interesting.  Here's one for you LPdinerman "We mock what we don't understand."

Once again, another well informed Venice resident, who was with the police the entire time………Who spoke with the person who called 911…….Who knew exactly the conversation that took place between all involved people…….Who was there with the police to give your critical input and information…….Who apparently knows more then the highly trained bomb techs………..   What would Venice do without you LPDinerman?  Thank you for being so involved!  I will rest easy knowing you are on the case.  And please upload the video of the child leaving the bag, cause we all want to know that you are correct…… we will be waiting patiently to see it.

And yes we need rain! :)

Good lord PrayForRain, what is with the snarky comments? Totally not necessary.

I think people have been watching the news too much. One bag on the sidewalk and its a bomb. Wonder how much $$ was spent for this little firework fest.

I am the one that said "As you can see in the pictures, it appears they diffused a skateboard by blowing it up" in the original post based on seeing the scattered skateboard parts in the pictures and the information that "they blew the charge at 7:49 pm". And I used the wording "it appears that" …

Ravi did not say what was in the bag … as you can read in his account of it.
