Text just came in: "Big crowd, I think someone was hit by a car. Looks like someone is on the ground covered up".

More info when we get it ...

Didn't hear anything further about it - it happened past 6 so the businesses right there were closed, no one answered their phones when I called.

I didn't make the effort to call LAPD Pacific to ask - usually they are not an easy source for answers - I wasn't going to spend an hour + to figure this one out.

Am I the only one who thinks 4th and Rose really needs a traffic light now?

I agree with you Other Lisa although 2 lights might be needed since most cars speed down the street and then make Calif-stops (if we are lucky) at the stop signs, if it were bikes doing that there would be much more outrage from the YoVenice community.

Love your bike.

The problem with Rose is that it is a CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY (my neighbor Tom Jewett calls it "The highway to Hawaii") and other rules apply as to how many stops and lights can be there.  We had to deal with this when Chris Williams and I lobbied for the stop sign at Penmar and Rose.  It took years and a near-fatal accident to get that one.  That said, The light at 7th is mostly necessary for the trucks that go in and out of the shopping center and is of questionable value. I think that the arterial stop at 6th should be replaced with a light and arterials should be placed on both 4th and 7th. In another place and time, this could be tried and tested and reversed if it does not improve things, but at this point, it would have to be approved by both LA City and CA traffic engineers, and once the changes were made, would be set in stone!!!   Eventually, it will not matter because the traffic on Rose will be bumper to bumper, 24/7.  I already often have to go west on Rose for a block or two, turn left across traffic and then go east on Sunset, just to circumvent the eastbound line on Rose, or go north into Santa Monica to get to Lincoln.

While I could blame this on lackadaisical local leadership, it is a very complicated process on "The highway to Hawaii"

I don't mean to hijack this thread but drunks and transients (and drunk transients) on Rose don't help matters.  It's fairly common to see folks totally out of their minds crossing against traffic or even just standing in the middle of the street on that stretch of Rose at all hours of the day/night.  I'm NOT saying accidents are their fault but it does create a dangerous situation for everyone.  Drunks on bikes riding down the hill on 3rd and not stopping when they get to Rose is another dangerous one - I've seen one get hit by a car and one actually hit a moving vehicle in the past week alone...
