OfflineShanty: Idealistic, yes. Naive, hmmnn you don't know me very well.
Long time: agree agree agree. That's why I went out and got some pretty heavy hitters (now over a 1/2 Billion in Venice RE) to support this Task Force. Together with hopefully a great number of Venice residents we will make sure that the lawlessness in our community is stopped in it's tracks. Already, LAPD has begun patrols at night along OFW to grab the easy targets (basically, anybody on their feet after 2:00am).
Shane, again. Maybe so. And if that's what it will take we will take that path at the appropriate time. But right now, the Mayor and our Councilperson are listening. They have already taken the initial steps that will address the bigger problems.
Please join the Task Force for a Safer Venice.

Just sold my place on Wavecrest!
Some Google kid bought it for the asking price. I repeat – The asking price.
Won't be long friends. Once all that Google money starts flooding into the community the CRUSTIES will be gentrified out and will have to go elsewhere. Probably Long Beach or somesuch.
Anyways, this problem probably won't last too much longer.
CRUSTIES and Google ain't a match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like your idealistic vision is pretty fascist.
let me hip you to a statistical reality..
there are five times as many people BECOMING homeless everyday in America…
than there are homes being PURCHASED.
good luck with your asking price

OfflineVSA: BS. Total BS. I spent much of the night out there last week. I am not talking about the homeless. I am talking about the drug addicts/alcoholics that are running up and down the Boardwalk in the middle of the night creating an intolerable condition that we are going to put an end to. Stuff that up your VSA

OfflineVSA – "fascist?" Really? What an idiotic thing to say; and typical name-calling of somebody who does not want to engage on the merits of an issue. (Mildly surprised you did not throw in "racist!" "patriarch!" "homophobe!" "sexist!" "sizeist!" "elitist!" "Yankees fan!" and "Gosh Darn Son Of A Gun!".)
I've been here 53 years and there has always been homelessness to varying degrees. But in all that time, I have never seen it the way it is now. Everyone knows this. Something must be done.
And it seems to me that all Tired Of The Disrespect wants, and is even willing to put the energy and time pursuing, is an end the lawless chaos. He repeatedly said it is not about homelessness per se, but that homelessness cannot be an excuse for the kind of things going on these days at OFW.
I don't think that amounts of fascisim, or anything remotely close to it.
From Wiki:
Fascism (
/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a radical, authoritarian nationalist political ideology.[1][2] It advocates the creation of a totalitarian single-party state that seeks the mass mobilization of a nation through indoctrination, physical education, and family policy (such as eugenics).[3]

OfflineWell Gang….
Seems to me that the only thing left to do is DEVELOP IT!! – Yep, let Four Seasons (That already own property)and the Russian guy with the big boat come in and make Venice bigger, better and way more profitable!!! - - Funny how these things work….. Let's see; OFW gets REAL bad because on-the-book laws are not enforced and citizens get mad and want action, while the liberal-to-a-fault argue that this is a political and social issue involving the "homeless" when what we really are talking about is mostly criminals and junkies at this time….. And the passionate dialog goes on and on and the city does little or nothing …..
THINK THAT THERE MIGHT BE A CONNECTION between the present situation and the City's need for development??????
Not that I'm against reasonable development, but I've seen this sort o' thing when I lived in San Francisco for the first half of my life – It comes from high places and is a great way to channel public opinion….
KEEP SLUGGIN!

Oddly, I don't have a problem with massively developing OFW. Though I'd rather see an old town Pasadena type vibe than say a garish Waikiki. Cobblestone OWF, replace the prison yard lighting with faux old style gas lights, add nice restaurants, one off galleries, a few nice boutiques, maybe even a charming B&B or two. But I would be horrified to see a massive shopping mall or a row of ginormous hotel/resorts on our beach. The main problem is that laws need to be changed and enforced as they are in pretty much every other southern California beach community. Add to this the real need for 24/7 preferential permit parking in many of our 100% residential neighborhoods….
