When the Westminster Dog Park opened about 10 years ago, I lived a few blocks away and took my dog Milhous there all the time.  It was so fun!  There was a big awesome tree, a digging pit, benches for people, a small-dog section, and tons of great dogs and owners getting to know each other.  (I think I have pictures of it from back then, I'll have to dig around and find them.)

Now - what has happened to it?  It's disgusting!  It stinks, there is no place clean to sit - the dogs stand on top of the picnic tables and benches/chairs.  It looks like a dumping ground for lawn (and office) furniture.

And owners that literally drive up, dump the dog in the park and drive away … thinking it is free doggy day care. wtf, yo?

last time i was at westminster someone had pee'd on the tables/benches and then my dog got worms.  not sure if the two are related.  either way, we don't go there anymore.  people think i'm crazy but we always have fun at the dog park on main street and pacific.

I really hate to use the word hate….

But I do have many strong, mixed emotions about Westminster dog park. Jackson really loves all the dogs and the size of the park, and I will admit I am one that thinks its his park so he can climb on the tables…But this summer was bad. He got fleas even with a double dose of Frontline, and there tended to be a couple dogs that were just plain mean. No one likes an asshole in the sand box…I try to go late afternoon if at all, when there are only a few dogs that we know. Check out these other spots below.

Although I still am not so sure I approve of Playa Vista, they do have a nice, clean dog park.

Also, unofficially:

The Glen Alla Park has plenty of canines off leash, though there is no fences. It is grassy, big and fun.

I also know some that go to the beach far south of Washington Blvd, around Lighthouse.

For Jackson though, the best exercise is a good skate down the bike path.

I agree with all of you.  It is unfortunate since I live 3 blocks away and it is totally convenient.  I only take my dog there once in a blue moon.  Lately, I have been going out of my way to the JOCELYN DOG PARK in Santa Monica.  If you are coming south on Lincoln, turn right on Jocelyn which is one street before Ocean Park.  It is really nice, big, clean and well maintained.

alls i can say is anyone who is running a business out of the park and inturn thinks the park is their personal proerty, should be criminally investigated.. IT IS ILLEGAL.. nobody would care if “you”(you know who you are in that stupid toyota truck) weren't such a b!tch…

oh and if i hear you tell my girlfriend to leave the park again or talk trash about my dogs.. i will show up with the cops and let them know about your lazy and non-legit operation..

3 cases of worms..some nasty fights.. and i almost killed someone for swinging at my dog…

but i definately am apart of a nice little community of dogs and people.. there are definately some good time of the day to go.. even if parasites are hiding absolutely everywhere!!

GET A REAL JOB LINDA!!! ur not a dog walker if you sit on your a$$ at the dog park.. stealing money from people…
