The Los Angeles Public Works Beach Avenue relief sewer project on Washington Boulevard we posted on earlier is now underway. The map of the project can be seen here.
http://www.YoVenice.com, on Flickr">
The Washington Oxford Beach Relief Sewer Project includes a number of improvements that will make the sewers more reliable for decades to come. The project involves the installation of about 2,100 feet of sewer pipe, five maintenance holes, two junction structures, and other components in Washington Boulevard between Beach Avenue and Oxford Avenue. A small portion of the project will be built in Oxford Avenue.
• Construction period: fall 2009 through summer 2010.
• A new, 2,100-foot long, 24 to 30-inch diameter sewer will be built.
• Work hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Limited night work and some service interruptions may take place when the individual local sewers (from homes) are reconnected to the new sewer. Residents will be notified 24 to 48 hours in advance.
• Project cost: $4.4 million

FANTASTIC! The predictability of starting major work on a major throughfare as it enters into it's season of highest use is a beautifully, splendid example of STUPID. Was that County stupid or City stupid? Nice job on the part of our Councilperson, good way to help Keep LA Moving…
I say, lets get Venice Blvd ripped-up at the same time!! Right on!! Go City Street Services!!

If all you people would only not poop so much, this whole project would be unnecessary.
I blame the people of MDR/Venice and their high-fiber diets.
And, borrowing a page from the anti-MMJ Nimbys "Think of the children!"
Without those big pipes, this is a glimpse of our future

I wanted to think this would discourage inland tourist traffic … no such luck.

The construction seems to be progressing, however, the signalled intersection at Mildred & Washington is now blocked (no left turn) making it an exceptional PITA to get eastbound on washington from the Silver Triangle neighborhood.
Looking at the city project links on the OP above, the scheduled project completion date is May 11, 2011 (NEXT spring/summer!). Anyone have any idea if washington will be blocked/ripped up that long?

If you look at the map, the construction goes east and even on to Oxford:

My hope is that construction slowly moves east at a quick pace.
I live on the West end of the construction, and it's been driving me nuts since February. I don't know if I can last till March 2011.
Anybody else have reliable info on this project?
