A Chicago made W.W. Kimball and Company upright piano that was abandoned on 19th and Ocean Front Walk two weeks ago has finally "met it's maker" and now remains as a pile of broken parts on Ocean Front Walk.
The piano confused some residents that believed the abandoned trash was part of the "Play Me, I'm Yours" art project. "Play Me, I'm Yours" has placed thirty pianos, designed and decorated by local artists and community organizations, around Los Angeles County in celebration of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra conductor and pianist Jeffrey Kahane’s 15th anniversary with LACO. Locally, the Santa Monica Pier received one of the "art" pianos. The pianos will be on "display" for public playing until May 3rd.
The Venice piano was likely worth less than shipping costs for the owner that abandoned it. Similar Kimball uprights go unsold on Ebay for $100.
