American Apparel on Ocean Front Walk? Dayyyum. They just opened in the over priced Thornton Lofts Venice (7-10k a month rent upstairs, or buy for 3mil plus.) building. How depressing. Take your thoughts to the forums, yo!

The impulse of greed is so perfectly demonstrated in this situation.

Empty, crap clothing being sold in a 'pop-up' (looks like a pop-up as nothing is permanent in there) store,

housed in an ugly neo-industrial space that so wishes it could be Modern but is only a hard-gray pile of crap.

I miss the parking lot.

Ahh….can't believe that's what went in there! I miss the parking lot too.

Kinda funny….years ago before they turned into a giant chain they used to sell their basic tees for cheap in one of the temporary clothing tents just south of the Korean sunglass couple who are at Sunset Ave.

Can't imagine what kind of shops could make it there instead. The space is weird.

The rent must be astronomical. Apart from another tat parlor or Kush Klub what

the hell could make any dough there?

Why is Venice so obsessed with eating our own?  People scream about how awful it is that American Apparel moved onto the boardwalk, that Pinkberry moved onto Abbot Kinney and that Coffee Bean moved onto Windward – all businesses that were founded and are based in LA County.  Hell – American Apparel even maufacturers their clothes in downtown LA.  Yet when Intelligentsia Coffee opened up on AK - a Chicago based business – people on this forum talked about how great and cool it is.  When Whole Foods – a Texas chain – opened, the community acted as if Christ returned.  The British hat maker Kangol gets constant good press on this blog.  Nobody batted an eye when the New York based Steven Alan Annex opened.  So why is it that the out of town chains are ok, but the companies that are creating jobs in our city are evil?

To set the record straight, I said I liked the free beer at Intelligentsia and said the girl that worked at Kangol was nice. ;)

Personally, I'm not opposed to more places opening up that aren't the kind of place a heroin addict would like to chill in front of.  it's a clothing store…what makes it worse than the t-shirt shops.  Clothes'is'Clothes.

I hear ya, I WISH some awesome art gallery that gave out free joints would open up in there….BUT those places can't afford that rent.  Blame the property value being so high, that only HUGE corporations can afford to move in.

Tis' the way of life…

Seriously, you're annoyed with American Apparel opening up?

Really?!

This is what Venice is now.  It is definitely annoying, at times, that Venice has become a place of interest for people who don't know the history and haven't lived here when it wasn't "the place to be" but get over it.

These people aren't pissing in my driveway or passing out on my front lawn.

Get over it. American Apparel isn't what's making your rent go up. If anything it hopefully gives the drug dealers, the homeless youth, the wandering drug addicts, some sort of realization.

Venice is beautiful and deserves respect. People who wish for a parking lot over a clothing store don't respect Venice.

I will find a way to pay to live here no matter how high the rents get.

American Apparel is just fine. (annoying but fine)

Missing the parking lot, that's just embarrassing for you.

If you want an art gallery to open instead of a clothing store, a T-shirt store, then open one.

Seriously, the space was available. Why didn't you open up an art gallery there? The space was available.

I guarantee you that godamn homeless "sherpa" that live on the patio at Venice Bistro' wont be hanging out there..and that's GOOD!
