Thanks to all for coming to our little corner of the web!
We had 30k page views last week alone, so people are hip to what we are all doing here in Venice all around the globe! Feel free to start your own threads asking for volleyball pals or paddle board friends and all that … that is why the forums are here.

Greetings. Great job on the site. I have been checking it out regularly, so I thought I would jump on in. My quest to live near the beach has finally ended after many years in Green Bay, Milwaukee, Boston, Madison, Dallas and most recently across the street from The Grove on 3rd St. I live on Abbot Kinney and the neighborhood is more vibrant and relaxed than the Fairfax area (well, before 11:00 pm on weekends anyway). I was surprised by the number of late night weekend trendsters roaming the streets, but it's all good.
Keep up the good work.

Hi, I'm Kellee and I found this site via Steve (aka Beaver)! I used to live on Indiana and 6th, now I'm on Westminster across from the dog park. I've lived in Venice now 2 1/2 years, been in LA 5yrs. My aunt has lived in the Venice Canals 30 years, so I learn everything about Venice and LA history from her (maybe we could organize a speaker series or somethin!). Oh yeah, and I make video games in Santa Monica, so the commute along the beach rulz.
I also moved here from NYC – I guess the neighborhood attracts us! I love the ecletic feel of the area, and I love the commitment to preserving a Venice culture. I wish there was a stronger sense of community and neighborhood pride – I mentioned this over in the "What does Venice need" conversation. I was thinking of creating a blog/forum to help with this, and voila! Turns out you guys did it, so I'm stoked to see it grow! Have you thought about mailing postcards out to everyone in the area to let them know this is here? Or maybe an ad in the Argonaut? Great work!

Hi Everyone!
My name is Monica, I'm an interior Designer and Space Planner. I've been living in Venice for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it here! I am so happy I found an online home for our little pocket of paradise.
I moved here from the Bay Area to go to college, and I never left.

Hi All -
Just moved out to Venice in May from New York City. Live a few blocks from Abbot Kinney on Broadway. Venice was the only place that made me feel 'at home' in a New York City-neighborhood-interesting-people kind of way. And it is by the beach. I have loved living here, and just a few hours before the shooting had proclaimed my love of this neighborhood after having spent the day at the Festival and biking along the beach. Despite the shooting, and the drug dealers posted on my block, I have to say I can't really complain about being here. This blog is great, and hopefully I can continue to learn about and explore my new home!
Hi Kosha! Welcome to Venice. I'm from NYC as well. I lived out here in Venice in the the late 90's and moved back a few years ago because I missed it. Venice natives HATE to hear anyone compare Venice to NYC or hear us express how it feels like home to us. But most people I talk to have moved here from other cities and feel the same way we do. We live here because we love it here. It doesn't matter if we were born here or not.
I'm sorry that there was something as awful as a shooting within your first few months living here. The day we closed on our house, there was a major police chase and shooting that night within a few blocks of here. I felt like “welcome back to Venice!” It was so much worse in the late 90's though.
Hi All,
Another NYC transplant here. Came to Venice around 3 years ago on some short term contract work and never left. I think its the energy that Venice gives off at night that I love that is so similar to NYC. It's electic. It's here and now.
All that tied in with a beach community. Gotta love it.
The bums are the same – just smarter (why would you be a bum in nyc anyway).
Cheers, jan

Hello everyone:
I bought my dream house on Bernard Avenue in 2000 and I haven't been involved in community politics until recently. I have a six foot fence around the front of my house and I am in the process of applying for a variance to permit my fence (I was 'turned in' by a meddling neighbor). I had the good fortune of meeting Keri at the VNC meeting last night who let me know about this site. Looks fantastic!

I'm a 23 year old female from Wisconsin, and just moved to L.A. 2 months ago. Been living in Venice for about a month. I'm an actor/model/web & graphic designer/astrologer/martial artist/writer. My major in college was Marketing, and I got laid off recently so I'm looking for a job.
Would love to meet some cool people in the area!

Hi,
I have lived in Venice for 23 years, in Malibu before that. All four of my grandparents were born in Los Angeles. I live in the silver triangle. Talk about dreading tourist season – or as I have fondly come to think of it the season of being a giant trash bin. Is it really necessary to stuff your big gulp cups into peoples hedges & pee on their front doors? Honestly! I would find the tourists much more endearing if they could manage to refrain from driveway blocking, littering, vandalizing, toileting on private property & sometimes even terrorizing. :p Truly though, I love where I live, which would kinda make sense seeing as how I've not moved elsewhere. I found this website when I was googling for information about that annoying helicopter hovering over my house & probing my windows with it's sad little searchlight on the 15th. I knew it wasn't a police aircraft but had no idea why it was flying so low & hovering for two hours in the same spot. I'm pretty sure it was breaking some sort of FAA regulations as it was hovering well under 1000 feet. When I aimed my camcorder at it the heli skedaddled pretty quickly but I'm pretty sure that was just coincidence & it was getting ready to move on anyway. Thanx for this website, what a wonderful resource for Venetians. =^.^=

I've lived in Venice since 2002, but been living in LA since '96. I put on music shows with several local music acts. I love Venice! It's the land of misfit toys, the only place I call home.

Hi all…I love Venice. Its the greatest city on Earth! I am a fifth-generation Los Angeles native and started coming to Venice when I was 7-8 years old. I somehow ended up here by luck of a great rental and cannot imagine ever living anywhere else. I've been here 22+ years, on Abbot Kinney and love nothing more than strolling through streets with one of my dogs. The weather is the biggest draw for many of us. There is no environment quite like ours. Thank you so much for this site! I visit often and love that we have a place to go for our neighborhood! And Venetian, I believe we are buds already, right?

me off guard filming me, and that is not the first…. But i guess its kinda funny at least that cant see my face. So HA Ha…

I grew up in Venice. Lived here my whole life. Wish I could transform Venice back to the way it was 15 years ago when it was a surf town filled with gang violence and actually affordable to live in. Hate the hippies but hate the yuppies more. Remember the days when not every household had a dog.

Size,
You can't live in a snow globe and neither can Venice. I moved here over 15 years ago and it was different. Now it is different again. In 15 years there will be people who miss the days when RVs were all over the streets of Venice, and pirates burned and looted our possessions.
I guess the tough part of the change is fighting for the things you believe belong in the community.
But you can't rally against change it is inevitable in every community.

Hi all,
I just found this site and now I'll be checing it everyday.
I have lived in Venice for over 25 years and recently retired from a local police department. I love Venice and was born and raised here. I love the residents, but know that law enforcement isn't very loved here.
If there are any questions as far as law enforcement, policies, crime trends or any of the such, I can most likely add some insight. I can also try to help explain why LAPD and their officers do what they do when they do it.
I'm all ears, but be a little respectful of the law is all I ask. Before you jump to conclusions, ask.
Hope to have fun with all you for years to come.
VeniceCopper.

Why in God's name would a retired LAPD cop retire in Venice?
Maybe you could have a welcome party for Yagman when he gets out of prison Nov 8Th this year.
He will be in a halfway house in Long Beach God help McDonnell!

Dear Copper,
There is an element here in Venice that has little regard for the law, the police are incidental – unfortunately, many of them got elected to the VNC and actually lobby the LAPD, Mayor and CD11 Council Office to "look the other way" in certain instances in the name of "free speech." This forum is generally beyond the Free Venice Beachhead mentality of "freedom = lawlessness." Check it out -
