Stroh's was the best vibe for your money first thing in the AM.  He (I don't remember the owner's name) also stocked a great Italian wine at a good price that went pretty nicely with the sundown.

I miss when Stroh's tasted good, when they made it in Detroit, before Schaeffer bought it out for market share and ruined its flavor. Drained many a 30-pack with friends in my teenage years (…you could drink legally at 18 then).

If you think they had the best Cheese Sarnies I am thinking you have never been to Europe !! Their Sarnies were dry as a bone and tasted like shyte.. Good Ridance to bad sarnies.. would rather get one from Subway.

I always wondered how a place with such obvious limited appeal could afford to be on AK. I guess now we know.

Further confirmation to me that there is a group of people who have a very warped sense of how generally normal most folks in Venice tend to be. There are places where a vegan/macrobiotic/whatever kind of place like that can make enough to pay the rent. AK isn't likely to ever be one of them

Can't say the closure was a surprise…. and not that I would wish bad business on anyone, but I agree with twined and MichaelInVenice, J's didn't have a great understanding of what would work well on that corner and I hope that something better comes a long.  If anyone has been reading this blog for the past couple years, it's pretty much common knowledge that we all miss Stroh's (myself included), so if anyone out there wants to open something similar, there's already the idea for a successful formula.  Good simple food, reasonable prices, friendly people, no hoity-toity.

Or of course, Stroh himself could come back back--even better. I miss the breakfast burrito and the egg croissant sandwich!
