For some reason we have forgotten to post up on Nikki’s 72 before on Yo!Venice!. Nikki’s has a kick ass happy hour, a diverse group of people and some great large windows to sit at for end of the day fun. We were reminded of that yesterday after our day out and about … and because we had so much fun .. we are heading back for Monday Night Football. See ya there!

Nikki’s 72

72 Market Street

Venice, CA 90291

Yummy nachos! They use a creamy cheese sauce instead of melted shredded cheese and it's awesome…everytime I go, I have to order them.

And they're cheap…normally $8, but at happy hour only $4! That is if you don't get meat, and with so much cheesey, gooey goodness you don't really need or miss the meat!

Just make sure to check your bill thoroughly before paying…. every now and then they'll overcharge–full price for happy hour items. But the staff is always super nice about it and quick to correct–they say the computer sometimes doesn't recognize the price change.

MMmm…nachos!

Can someone say cheese? This place is the downfall of Venice. A once unique and art filled establishment (72 Market) and even as The Globe, people could sit down for a nice dinner or sit in the bar area and enjoy the atmosphere and conversation. What Nikkis or Pussycat (which it was called when it opened) has done to the place is a travesty. They may have well as just opened Cabo Cantina here. Everything from the tacky Waterfall to the horrendous painting of a girls ass with a cheeseball tramp stamp to the covering of one of robert grahams sculptures.

And not to mention the overbearing plasmas. Why am I to go here when the Sidewalk Cafe has the same thing with the flavor of Venice.

How I miss the Globe. Hell even the sign is still on the corner above Aardvarks.

It just goes to show yet again.

Money can't buy taste.

lobo .. at sunset before the "scene" starts i like it .. when there are only a handful of people there it is cool by me .. i don't go for the big party scene places .. and while i know this place does it late at night .. i'm never there for that.

I have no problem with the plasmas.  It's nice to be able to watch sports somewhere in Venice.

agreed, finding a sports bar where i can get a real drink and still watch a ton of games is a nice thing. what would be killer is if the whaler in it's new incarnation used it's space well and added a bunch. great view, crap food (you can't win it all), and sports screens all over? yes please!

I dig the place.. I mean happy hour on the weekends is hard to beat… and it is just far off the beach that you don't get tons of tourists… and I love the sliders… so as far as comparing to sidewalk cafe.. 1/2 the price and 1/10 the families on vacation :-)

We're locals and used to love going to Nikki's, everybody's Great, all the staff…But the manager, Luke, is an idiot. Wow, what a major Jerk. Rude, insulting, and we had 3 other local friends he did treated the same way. Big chip on his shoulder for who knows what reason. Used to take our friends there and recommend it. Bartenders told us it was a big problem with other customers, too. Why the owners put up with this behavior is a mystery. Won't recommend and won't go back 'til he's Gone. None of us! Happy Hour's good, drinks and apps 1/2 price, but not to be insulted by Luke the Scumbucket. He must be miserable.

That was a nice 'surfboard'. Rounded rails with a nice tail rocker.

It was closed briefly because of some health department woes (from what I heard from a part-timer there). Sounds like they got it cleared up.

That happened to pretty much all the restaurants and bars on Washington at the Pier a few years ago. I think the Whaler and the Terrace were the only ones that passed. I talked with the manager at Cow's End and he said it was a surprise inspection and that they found rat crap in a lot of the kitchens. Apparently the problem is if they leave their back doors open the rats come in side, do their business, and leave.

Either way, you gotta clean more often than that. I worked a nice restaurant outside of Minneapolis for three years in the kitchen and we moved everything and cleaned hard core once a month, on top of thorough, regular cleanings.

I like the Happy Hour at Nikkis too.  But I agree Luke was a coked out self bloated moron. Sorry Luke, but your gone now. There are only a few happy hours in Venice that I can think of. The Canal Club, Chaya, Nikki's. Do any of the overpriced restaurants on AK have a happy hour? And what's the deal with the yellow place on Main that used to be Van Gogh's Ear, anyone been there? Remember the John Holmes at Van Gogh's Ear. That was a great late night haunt.
