Aquaman/woman I forget Aren't you an 85 year old woman?  Doesn't matter.  The fact is OG 1964 posts for the first time that we are "clueless sheep". Not exactly a mild criticism for a first time poster.  Regardless, you have a wonderful day Aquawhatever.

Wow!  With a staggering -7 and sad old Brad Neal taking a break from bragging that he knows how many millions every VB property is listed for to whine about me, I guess the people have spoken.  Hating wins!  No wonder most of Venice hates you people.

well i look at things like this... don't take what anybody says on here to personal.  lost of people know that the garter was a dump much like the brig was open from 6am -2 am with sawdust on the ground.  Venice OG was just saying sheep because he may have noticed the comments indicating that they don't have problems there currently.  they still have fights and theft like any other bar will.  the staff does its job in trying to control and monitor it guests.  years ago there were more bikers and gangs present.  they were more loosely run because the city of los angeles didn't run things as they do now.  my good friend josh is the current owner of the garter and the staff and security does a great job.   there is only so much security can do though.   they are paid to protect the staff, guest and property.   not escort you to your car.  not drive you home.  take taxi's then you don't have to worry about a gf getting stabbed because there are a lot of bad people in the world today.   and remember things are getting desperate out there so there will be other situations and place to avoid.  be careful and respect people when you are out having fun.  if you want to be safe go to Beverly hills and valet you don't hear many people getting stabbed there do you.  they take security more seriously cause it could get costly with legal battles if they didn't.  happy Halloween, don't be scared to live in Venice but don't be a arrogant jackass either.  we all in this together!   no matter where you at or where you from.... venice is a part of you.  be nice to your neighbors

Hey Bobby, check it out…so I'm watching the World Series with London this week and I mentioned that I'd won the Yo Venice story contest, and he was seriously bummed out that I had anything to do with this site and all its damn haters, which made me think.  So I wrote a post suggesting that people bring down the hate level a bit, because this site is getting a very bad rep.  And a couple haters responded with their usual personal attacks, calling me names and whatever.  I was just trying to help, but now I'm moving on.  I know you've said similar things in the past, and they've bitched at you too.

Hell, the only reason I started posting here was when Shawn was all pissed off because the haters on this site were talking trash about Bagel and Foster, which totally set me off.

I'm over it.  Hate away, people!  I don't think anybody really listens to this sh!t anyway.

aquaman,

If you read the main page and don't enter into the forums, you will never experience any "hate". I don't hate on anyone. I put up local news.

The RV debate comes with a ton of baggage, and I know when I post a news story on RV's people will light up, but I try and balance that with about a 20:1 ratio of positive posts for each of those.

Unlike say a motorcycle forum where personal attacks are easy to shut down when some guy goes off over some pin stripes on a 750 four, when people are talking about where they live they get pretty opinionated about it.

The decision I have is to let people speak their mind, or to randomly delete stuff I don't like. Randomly deleting things would make the site my version of what life in Venice is, which would be pretty bogus … so I let it float as is and only delete overtly personal attacks that are off topic or threats of violence.

People like to argue on the internet .. you can see that in every comment section of every major news site … this site is no different except it allows people to create their own subject matter since it is a forum.

I would be bummed to lose you from posting here, but I "get it" if you don't think the positives of a totally open forum to exchange ideas outweighs the negatives.

I don't support many of the posts here, but I support the freedom for people to post whatever they want, even if I disagree with it personally. It ain't "Venice according to Bret", it is "Venice according to whoever throws in their two cents". Hope that is understandable and explains why the forums are so "open".

I get a lot of flack about the site because of the forums, and people confuse what was said on the forums with me actually saying it. My life would be a lot easier if I moderated the forums, but I think open is the way to go.

As an example: If I put up a post on a new AK store, someone will yell that they sell leather and thus kill animals and post animal videos from PETA, others will yell Beverly-Venice, and some will say "I like it". Then they all argue about who is right. If I posted the same on a site about Santa Monica, people would say "cool, can't wait to shop there". Venice is not a community of one voice … it is a lot of voices.

I am open for suggestions on this .. if the "general" community thinks it is time for some heavy handed forum moderation, I will pick 3-4 well respected posters and let them moderate posts. If that happens, people may have ideas they beleive in get deleted .. so it is not 100% an idea without problems of its own…

(By the way .. I took some of the stills in the Hso-Foster-Bagel video. Bagel knew haters would just hate, based on the subject. When yer making art … some people will not like what you think is brilliant. I don't think any of those guys took "the haters" as anything more than that. I certainy didn't .. I thought it was high-larious … but what would this site be if I deleted every comment that said they didn't like that video? If I deleted all the posts that said it sucked, it would not be an honest site. It can be argued "you wound't say that to my face", but thats neither here nor there … not everyone on this site agrees or is friends with everyone else .. some have agendas and vendettas, other simply think others opinions suck … people tell me the site sucks all the time because of the forums … I say so be it, but am open to discussion about it.)

Aqua: what a whiner.  Honestly, last month you told me to ef off.  Who is the hater?  This post began with a former Venetian attacking current Venetians as "clueless sheep".  Not a very friendly introduction.  Nevertheless, you go out of your way to attack me for my fairly tame response to the original poster.  Take a break.  You need to get away.  Try Hawaii.  It works for me.  I don't hate anyone.  I might not like someone but hate is never a good emotion. Never.  Peace, bn

Brad, I've got nothing to say to you so you're just flapping in the wind.  Although I'm sure you'll post a response just to get the last word in (OCD much?) but seriously, no one's listening.  I only told you to eff off after you called me names the last time.  And you only use this site to look for tenants for your properties anyway.  Let it go.  Goodnight.

On to things that matter:

Bret, you're cool.  And I don't think anybody holds you responsible for the comments posted on this site.  I definitely don't.  And I know tempers get hot when it comes to people dumping sh!t in the street.  Mine sure does.  But the rest of the time, jeez…way over the top and totally full of hate when it really doesn't call for it.  I guess we'll see what happens.  Who knows?  Maybe things here will get more positive and the site's rep will improve.  And then you'll be able to mention Yo Venice in James Beach without people bristling, rolling their eyes and making disparaging remarks about the people who post here.  Here's hoping, anyway.

If Brad or any of you haters has anything to say about this, don't waste your breath because I won't see it.  I'm going out.  It's Halloween.

Btw – good job helping Bagel & Hso with their vids.  And you're right, that was comical that night.  Shawn and I had been drinking for a long time, and yelling at the computer while banging away on the keyboard…like that scene in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.  ("You are the ones who will lick balls!")

Just one dude's opinion but for Christ's sake Bret, don't change a thing. I've never understood that term "hater". People disagree. People are angry and say so. Sometimes it becomes name calling but that's real life. Hell, I've heard harsher words expressed by family members at thanksgiving. Tired of the disrespect  and I came down on opposite sides a while back. He vented, I vented. No hate. Nothing but respect. If you don't have enough belief in your post to take the feedback, don't post it. Thicken your skin a bit. This is one of the few places left where your opinion just might count. If you don't think YoVenice is making a difference in Venice, you are blind. If it didn't have power, nobody would bother arguing here. Don't change a thing Bret.

Irony, it's what's for breakfast.
