Since Dennis Hopper was Venice resident, I don't think it is too off base to start a topic regarding a new MOCA installation. opening on Tuesday. James Franco, Ed Ruscha, Paul McCarthy and several other artists were involved. I was lucky enough to attend the press preview yesterday. The piece is an irreverent deconstruction of "Rebel Without a Cause" and James Dean himself. Not only is there the Dennis Hopper connection, but I think the exploration of masculinity has resonance for the Venice culture, particularly the Free Venice culture which has similar constructs with its roots in counter culture and anti-establishment.
This is the link to my blog with includes my take on what I saw and many photos of the actual exhibit. It might be interesting for people to go see and/or the topic itself might be interesting to discuss. Thanks.
