Classical Music and dollar boat shuttles from the north side of the Marina sound fun? It isn't in Venice, but this popular series of free outdoor concerts is held in one of the most spectacular waterfront settings in Marina Del Rey, Burton W. Chace Park. Attracting stellar musical talent, four classical music concerts featuring the 75-member Marina del Rey Summer Symphony alternate with four exciting pop concerts on select Thursday and Saturday evenings. All concerts are free to the public. Concerts begin at 7 p.m., and generally last about two hours.

These concerts are one of my most favorite summertime activities and I look forward to them every year! I think they are way better than the Santa Monica Pier concerts because of getting the mix of both pop and classical. The crowd is a bit older–they will "sshhhh" you if you're too chatty, but you do feel like you're at a real concert. They do an opera night every year and it's always fantastic. Cleo Laine and John Dankworth also put on a good show if you like standards.
