The LA County Department of Public Health has issued a warning for all residents to take precautions against mosquitoes! If you see “still water” around town, empty the water out to help stop mosquito breeding grounds! Just two tablespoons of standing water is suitable to produce up to 300 mosquitoes! Be sure to dump and drain any standing water on your property!

The Los Angeles County Health Officer today confirmed the first human death of West Nile virus (WNV) infection in Los Angeles County this year. The fatality occurred in one older adult male, who lived in the South Bay area, had pre-existing health conditions and was hospitalized at the time of death. To date, 13 WNV infections have been documented, including 6 asymptomatic blood donors. Continue reading

Chicken, burgers, hot dogs (veggie too), and pulled pork will be served up by Venice’s own fire fighters from LAFD Station 63, grilled by Captain Jeremiah Johnson and master grillers, Barklie Griggs and Todd von Hoffmann.
We will be joined by special guests including Councilmember Mike Bonin, City Attorney Mike Feuer, Senator Ted Lieu, and General Manager of Department of Neighborhood Empowerment Grayce Liu. The 29th annual Twilight Concert Series at The Santa Monica Pier will showcase “Australian singer-songwriters” with headliner Xavier Rudd and Nikki Jensen as the opening act this evening! As always, the concerts run from 7-10pm and are FREE!
