‘Round the stoke of midnight earlier this evening, local revelers torched a six pack of Christmas trees on the sands of Venice Beach near 20th Ave.
“Christmas Trees on Venice Beach” by Sunny Bak.
Some traditions have it that Christmas trees should not be burned, while others say the ritual should take place on either Candlemas Eve, Twelfth Night or Shrove Tuesday to help the pancake fires.
Superstition / tradition by way of Venice Beach means burn your trees at midnight on January 9th after a Venice Art Crawl event!
Peace and happiness to all in 2012!
(FYI to all the unmarried girls in Venice that were given mistletoe by a suitor: folklore says that when burning mistletoe, steady flames are a good sign! If the mistletoe “splutters” the dude might make a “cross and bad-tempered husband”!)
