On the Waterfront, located on Ocean Front Walk in Venice, is a classic Venice establishment. Grab an Erdinger or Bitburger and watch the foot traffic pass … or grab a burger and fries and some iced tea. There is always a lively crowd at the Waterfront playing pool or throwing lemon wedges at the trash cans outside. (You are not supposed to throw the wedges, and will get yelled at for doing so .. so watch out!) Don’t plan on using the restrooms, as they never seem to be all that clean … but what do you expect of a boardwalk beer hall?

It is the time of year that all the new baby ducks are being born around the Venice canals. Be careful while driving around the neighborhood, as the ducks will cross wherever and whenever they want. One major duck crossing zone is around the Abbot Kinney Branch Library.
I went to Gabby’s for lunch again … and have to say that Gabby’s always hits the spot for a great lunch. Gabby’s doesn’t ever do well with asking them to hold the tomatoes on the chicken shawarma wrap, but it is worth the inconvenience since the wrap is so tasty. (Is it just me or did there used to be more chicken in the wraps tho?) I’ve never dined inside, but there is always some good people watching outdoors. And don’t forget to try Gabby’s famous french fry’s … which you can always order and take to Hinano’s across the street to have with a burger, too.

For ten Thursday evenings during the summer starting at 7:30 p.m., the Twilight Dance Series at the Santa Monica Pier provides free concerts for all. A great way to spend the evening is to grab some friends and bicycle down to the pier and set up camp on the beach. This year there is the addition of free valet bicycle parking on the beach.

Paul Chesne has played often at the Terrace and Hinano in Venice. Check out his blog, and try and go see him when he plays … he has some great songs! Here is a snap of Paul playing in Malibu on the 4th of July. The Paul Chesne Band will be playing July 28th at O’Briens pub on Main Street in Santa Monica. See you there!
